POM Polyoxymethylene
POM-C and POM-H (white / black) polyamides are polymers, whose chains contain mainly acetyl groups (-O-C-O-). They are obtained in the process of aldehydes polymerization. Pure acetal copolymer (POM-C) in relation to homopolymer, however, has higher mechanical endurance, creep and abrasion resistance. It is also characterised by lower coefficient of thermal extension, rigidity and hardness.
Properties:
- high mechanical endurance, hardness and rigidity,
- possibility of usage in large temperatures,
- very good dimensional stability,
- fatigue and abrasion resistance,
- good sliding properties (natural self-lubrication),
- high resistance to chemical agents (hot water, diluted acids, detergents, numerous solvents),
- high impact strength (also in low temperature),
- small water absorption,
- very high resilience,
- good UV radiation resistance (black type),
- physiologically harmless, admitted to direct contact with food,
- high creep resistance,
- superb machinability,
- high break down resistance.
Machining
Polyacetals can be processed on turning lathes. Due to good machinability POM is particularly recommended for production of precise mechanical parts with minimal roughness of surface such as: curves, cams, valve-seats, snapping elements, sliding slats and bearing.
Rigidity and resilience
POM C and H, despite minimal differences in hardness and rigidity, can be applied everywhere where safety requirements depend on constant properties of material. They are adequate for production of cams, fine-pitch sprockets, wheel with small modules, valve seats, loaded bearing and discs, precision parts of dimensional stable machines.
Chemical resistance
The outstanding chemical resistance of POM-C and H make them suitable for application where exceptional strong aggressive medias are used.
Contact with food
These materials are admitted to direct contact with food (EU and FDA guidelines) and are physiologically harmless.
Low water absorption
Due to POM low water absorption it is possible to use it in dry environment as electric insulators. POM is used in the production of seals, stirring and pressing elements, electrically insulating parts working in water with temperature up to 80oC (POM-C), plugs and insulators.
Colour
Standard POM-C is available in white colour and POM- H in black.
Well-known trade brands: Acetal, Delrin, Ertacetal, Tarnoform.
