This high-performance semi-crystal plastic, due to its unique proprieties, covers various applications of high requirements. It distinguishes oneself with high crystallinity and perfect mechanical endurance.

There are 4 basic forms of PEEK:

  • pure ( beige colour) - possesses good thermal and mechanical endurance, good chemical resistance, sliding properties as well as good electric insulation,
  • strengthen by 30% addition of glass fibres (beige colour) it has better abrasion resistance, thermal dimensional stability and electric insulation,
  • strengthen by 30% addition of carbon fibbers (black colour) - it possesses better abrasion resistance, thermal dimensional stability without losing good sliding proprieties,
  • strengthen by 10% addition of carbon fibres and graphite (black colour) it is an optimal formula of PTFE, carbon filament and graphite with unique trybological properties.

This material finds application in construction of vehicles and textile machines, paper and packing, electrical engineering, medical technology food industry, nuclear and vacuums technologies as well as apparatus building.

Properties:

  • resistance to high temperatures,
  • the highest abrasion resistance in comparison with other plastics of high performance,
  • dimensional stability,
  • very good ductility,
  • exceptional resistance to UV and high energy radiation (gamma and X-ray),
  • very good resistance to chemical substances and hydrolysis ( the additional protection of surface is necessary),
  • low thermal expansion coefficient,
  • depending on the type, admitted to contact with food,
  • high thermal load - carrying capacity and mechanical,
  • high creep resistance,
  • low flammability as well as smoke secretion during combustion.

Chemical resistance

PEEK has perfect chemical resistance which gives a possibility of its use in contact with various materials. There is no need of applying additional proactive surfaces or highly alloyed metals. Simultaneously, it is resistant to hydrolysis (260oC) and steam. PEEK is a very good solution for many applications in medicine and food industry as it tolerates frequent sterilization without stress cracks.

Coefficient of thermal expansion

PEEK has lower thermal expansion coefficient of in comparison with other technical plastics. The optimum dimensional stability enables its constant usage in wet environment without shape changes. The expensive plastic-metal constructions can be avoided. PEEK can be applied in the production of sleeves, collars, stopper rings and distance slats.

Temperature resistance

PEEK withstands temperature up to 260oC. At the same time its electric resistance value as well as rigidity and durability are kept. It also assures good form resistance in applications where the influence of temperature and steady loads are essential. It gives a possibility of its use in utilization in medical technique.

Anti-friction and sliding proprieties

Thanks to modification, PEEK has exceptional sliding proprieties and enhanced abrasive behaviours. It is an ideal for sprockets, sliding bearings and slats, friction linings production.
PEEK (beige) is admitted to the direct contact with food (is physiologically harmless).
PEEK (black) is physiologically harmless, it is not, however, admitted to the direct contact with food.

Colour

PEEK is available in beige and black colours.
