TECHNICAL PLASTICS

The construction of modern machines is not possible without technical plastics nowadays. They enable us to meet high request of modern safety and ecological technologies. Their good sliding properties, high wear resistance, operating temperatures and mechanical endurance as well as chemical resistance make them indispensable for machine constructors and builders. They let them efficiently and economical replaced conventional materials. Since the plastics have been introduced to everyday life, they can be easily found in many fields of life. They supersede traditional materials like wood, metal or glass. In comparison with them, plastics are easy to treat and suitable for many application.

They are also resistant to many chemical substances, especially to corrosion. Due to low weight and lubricant elimination plastic elements are much cheaper. They are applied in food, aircraft, paper, extractive, pulp and paper, machine-building, chemical, automotive industries, medicine, petrochemistry, electronics, tools production and many other branches where there are high requirements concerning used materials.

Semi-finished product

Good sliding properties (especially in dry applications), low weight and resistance to chemical corrosion are the unique characteristics of modern plastics. In order to gaining some additional properties special admixture and reinforcing materials are used. These are:

  • glass fibres and balls, carbon fibres and textile warp which increase thermal size stability,
  • PTFE, graphite and aramid fibres increasing sliding properties and friction resistance,
  • metal fibres and glass.

The additional benefit of plastics is that they can be processed by extrudation, injection or press moulding on automatic press-forming dies. It is a great opportunity for the constructors to design and make use of plastics in new technical and technological applications.

MAIN APPLICATION FIELDS OF TECHNICAL PLASTICS

We present various possibilities of technical plastics applications based on their unique properties, high quality and failure-free work.

  • machines and apparatus construction: guide rails for belt and chain conveyors, sliding and anti-friction profiles, sprockets, rolls, tensile sleeves, buffers, scraper buckets, tabs, gathers, hammer heads, antistatic and conductive linings,
  • deep cooling techniques: self-sealing rings, piston rings (with operating temperature up to -269OC, valves, seals, gaskets, dynamic sealings in extraction apparatus, piston covers,
  • chemical industry and electroplating: rotating and metering pumps, valves, gaskets, tabs, filter plates and frames, sliding elements, sprockets, containers, containers inserts, galvanic drums and other chemical and thermal resistant elements,
  • textile industry: textile machines parts, which are exposed to large impact loadings and pickers and accumulation rollers,
  • paper industry: application demanding material with good sliding properties and wear resistance, sieve slats, facings of sieve tables, scraper blades,
  • machines for bunkering and handling loose materials: due to good sliding properties and high wear resistance, they are often used for lining bunkers, convening gutters, wagons for coal, sand, gravel and metal ores transporting, wagons for lime and cement industries, power stations and foundries,
  • electrical engineering: insulating elements for high voltage and highest frequency techniques, materials resistant to high temperature and gas emission, cable clamps, cable handles, contact inserts for plugging systems in electrical equipment,
  • elements of packing and pouring machines: bottle guides, guide tables, corner tracks, scrolls, rolls and cams,
  • aircraft and aerospace industries: high efficiency and reliability elements resistant to high temperature and thermal shock,
  • medical techniques: product resistant to sterilization and hydrolysis in hot water environment, gamma and X-ray radiation, chemicals, body fluids and disinfectant,
  • automobile industry: vibration dumpers in transmission gears, clutch parts, elements of sealing hub caps in bearings, conducting systems, insulating rings, sealing rings, valves,
  • examples of other applications: sprockets, profiles, table tops for paper, cardboard, textile, leather, foil and rubber cutting, table tops for cutting and chopping applied in meat and fish industries, tracks in bowling alleys, prosthesis.
